The Baundale Homestead by: Nancy English, Owner.
Whether you are a homegrown Wellingtonian or a transplant you have most likely heard of Molly Baun, the local celebrity Holstein cow; her likeness can be seen on the mural outside Farm and Home Hardware. Molly was purchased by Charles W. Horr and reported to be the first Holstein cow in the United States. The Horr brothers were considered the driving force behind the mass production of cheese after the Civil War, with the opening of their first factory in Huntington, Ohio in 1866. By 1872 they joined forces with Sidney Warner and E.F. Webster to form Horr and Warner Company through which many other supporting companies were formed making Wellington, Ohio the cheese capital of the country.
Charles and his wife, Esther built their home on thirty acres of land at the southern end of Wellington in 1872. The house, a perfect example of Victorian Italianate architecture, was dubbed the Baundale Farm, in honor of the cow he credited his success. While considered a crown jewel in Wellington, the house and land adjacent went through many changes and owners over the years. Much of the land was sold transforming it from a farm to residential property.
The current owners are Tim and Nancy English. Both having retired from Westlake City Schools they moved to Wellington in 2007 with the intention of opening a Bed and Breakfast. Changing direction in favor of working for Whitney Home Health Care, specializing in companionship for the elderly. The immersion of Airbnb opened another avenue to a lost dream and The Baundale Homestead Airbnb was born in November of 2021.
Today, the Baundale Homestead rents one suite consisting of three rooms, a bedroom, sitting room, and bath with a private entrance via a large porch. The bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed, end tables with USB outlets, a mini refrigerator, microwave, and coffee station. The sitting room is complete with a television, internet capabilities, and a wide range of books. There is a parking lot at the back of the house and the porch has an old world feel with wicker furniture.
Since opening the Baundale Homestead has welcomed over 100 guests and currently holds a “Super Host” status with Airbnb. There has been a wide range of visitors from family gatherings such as weddings or graduations, to windsurfing in New London; some are just passing through. The one thing in common, which is the goal, is to provide a quiet respite from everyday life. The Baundale is not intended for parties. There are no children or pets permitted. The English family includes a border collie, an aging terrier, and a precocious cat. It is in consideration of their own, that pets and children are not permitted. The unit accommodates two people.
The cost is dependent on the length of stay however one night is a $160.00 value. The self-check-in is at 3:00p.m. and check-out is at noon the following day. Details can be viewed on the Airbnb site however the winner of the raffle will book directly through the owners.

Originally named the Baundale Farm the larger property was parceled out over the years to its current size and renamed the Baundale Homestead. Built between 1870 and 1873, by Charles W. Horr, the house is a perfect example of the Victorian Italianate architecture with two parlors, a large dining room, kitchen, seven bedrooms, and four bathrooms.
