The Map that encompasses the DORA. What is DORA? How the stickers and cups will look. AND MORE. |

the DORA map area was changed 7.18.24 by the Village of Wellington. This is the Central Business District Zoning Map.
What is DORA?
DORA stands for Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area. It is a defined OUTDOOR area of town where people can consume alcohol when purchased in a DORA cup from an approved location. Many Main Street Communities have witnessed a DORA being an economic driver. Our hope is to add this feature to our Village to create a destination where visitors and community members can enjoy sipping, eating, and shopping in Wellington.
There are additional rules that must be followed to have the privilege to have an "open container" DORA RULES
What days/times is DORA operating?Currently, the Village of Wellington is proposing the DORA to operate for approved events between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. The organization or business sponsoring the DORA event will determine the exact hours.
What stores allow me to shop with a DORA cup? Each retail and service business will have the ability to allow open containers inside or not. The businesses that permit this will have a green "Welcome" sticker/sign on their door. Some may have a "Not Permitted" sign if they are opposed to a alcohol in their business. If there is not a sticker on a door, check with the owner/staff first before entering with DORA.

How do I get a cup?
Signs will be displayed in the locations that sell DORA drinks. Most likely they will be all downtown restaurant/bars. Occasionally, there may be additional non profit selling them. For example, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2051 typically has a permit to sell beer and malt beverages during the July 4th celebration.
They are a one-time use cup. If you want to drink more than one beverage outdoors, you will have to repurchase a cup. |
Why does my DORA drink cost more?
There are costs to having the privilege to use a DORA, including the cups, signage, additional trash receptacles, staff time and training, security, installing signage, cleaning etc.
At this time, the additional cost has not been determined but many DORA locations charge an extra $1 per drink.

Why can't I take my DORA cup into another bar/restaurant?
Each restaurant and bar follows strict Ohio Liquor Laws and violating such a law puts that permit at risk. The DORA program is designed to enjoy drinks outdoors. When you purchase a drink in a DORA cup you need to exit the building. It is also not appropriate to buy one drink from a bar/restaurant and take it into another bar/restaurant to finish.
